9 Cecile Heystek

Cecile Heystek

Everything speaks of her presence saturated by the all consuming aroma of freshly brewed coffee
An awkward silence interrupted by hissing flames from the womb of an anthracite stove
A strange sense of comfort among the objects in the room
“still life with long life milk” of the bedside table (on top of cupboard)
the scent of her perfume, so familiar, still lingers on a pillowcase
the terminated television broadcast, screens a multi-coloured test pattern the only silent witness
a room, frozen in time enveloped by her absence
